“We have discussed at our political group (in the Seimas) that this is a decision that should bring benefit. It is in no way directed against the government, the coalition or anyone else,” Ramūnas Karbauskis told BNS.

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, who was appointed to the post by the LFGU but is not a member of the party, said on Monday that he saw no need for such a new agreement as measures aimed at curbing emigration were envisaged in the government’s program.

According to the LFGU, the agreement would aim to develop a long-term national program to achieve a positive balance of emigration and remigration flows, as well as to pursue an effective demographic policy. In parallel, the issue of dual citizenship would be addressed.
