ELTA news agency has learned from Elena Martinonienė, a representative of the Prosecutor General‘s Office, that the prosecutor disagrees with the judgement and on Monday, 2 February, asked to overrule the decision.
Earlier, on 12 January, the District Court of Vilnius City acquitted Daiva Ulbinaitė of abuse of office and disclosure of a state secret. She faced a maximum punishment of 3 year imprisonment for revealing classified information and up to 5 year imprisonment for abuse of office.
Last week Ulbinaitė returned to her old job at the President’s Office.
The Prosecutor General’s Office launched a pre-trial investigation in October 2013, after receiving information from Director of the State Security Department (VSD) Gediminas Grina that news agency BNS published classified information regarding a threat to national security. A secret VSD report, which was leaked to the media, claimed that Russia may publish discrediting or defaming information about President Dalia Grybauskaitė. Ulbinaitė was suspected of having leaked this information.
