Refugee resettlement to Lithuania at a standstill

Not even the Interior Ministry which carries out the selection of refugees knows when more refugees will be moved to Lithuania.

Besides this one family, who have taken the Lithuanian government to court over not granting them full refugee status, there is no one who has passed the selection process for refugees put in place by Lithuania.

According to the Deputy Minister for Internal Affairs, Elvinas Jankevičius, Lithuania carries out the strictest selection of refugees of all EU countries.

Lithuanian security officers and migration officials are currently travelling to interview and select refugees. In addition to these current procedures one more is being planned – refugees who have already moved to Lithuania will be asked to complete a survey.
