“Speaking about the targets, until now we viewed our security somewhat locally and saw our country and our society as a target, but today the scope of threats is changing and the European Union and NATO are becoming the main target,” Vytautas Bakas told BNS.

“Perhaps the main aim is to split the European Union by intervening in political processes and trying to show that NATO is no longer capable of meeting the challenges it was created to address,” he said.

In their last year’s report, Lithuania’s intelligence services identified Russia‘s imperial ambitions, its aggressive foreign policy and readiness to use military force, intelligence activities targeted against Lithuania’s interests, hostile information policies and efforts to instigate ethnic communities’ hostility toward the Lithuanian state as key national security threats.
