The draft amendment, which precludes the appointment of a member of the Seimas as a minister, passed the first reading in the parliament with 54 votes in favor, one against and 17 abstentions.

The amendment, initiated by the Labor Party, will be now discussed at the parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs.

The Constitution currently allows appointing a member of the Seimas only either as the prime minister or a minister.
