Ship traffic at Klaipėda port resumes as winds abate

A number of small ships have been allowed to enter and exit the port.

Dovilė Ringis, the port’s spokeswoman, told BNS that 13 vessels were waiting to enter the port and three were waiting to leave it on Thursday morning.

“No incidents occurred last night. The wind speed was around 25 meters per second with gusts up to 28 m/s. The height of waves was five to six meters,” she said.

Winds subsided to 16-18 m/s in the morning, but are forecast to strengthening again to 21 m/s in the evening, according to the spokeswoman.

Some 3,600 customers of Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius (Energy Distribution Operator, or ESO) were still without electricity on Thursday morning after the storm that started on Wednesday and continued into the night.
