Through a project called REFORMART, a group of 3rd-year students from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University took aim at some of the park’s concrete and walls.
The whole project was supported by WSUP, a local graffiti and lifestyle shop. Some of the walls, covered in graffiti, were quickly transformed by a group of VGTU graphic art students. Part of the steps and concrete facing Pylimo g.now display some real art as well.
An artist duo named KOOL ZEUS, consisting of Gabrielis Žvirblis and Vlad Stebenev, participated in the project. They met in college and have been collaborating on projects, whenever the opportunity presents itself. In daily life, they are into visual management and collaborate in various media, from drawing to providing website and brand solutions.
Gabrielis Žvirblis said, “Vlad and I were approached by the artists working at WSUP to participate in this project. With REFORMART, we were given a chance to create a large and urban project, allowing us to give Lithuania a brighter tomorrow.”
It took them 2 days to complete the whole project. Although there is no particular message behind the work, the bright colours and well-paired patterns they painted the park with made it look much more pleasant.
Žvirblis liked being involved in the idea as it was anything but an ordinary canvas. It also took place in a less-visited spot. On Sunday evening, Žvirblis said he could barely get up his steps at home after climbing steps in the park for two days.
Bean seats had been set up in front of the steps so that visitors could watch the project in progress.
Reform Park is slated to be converted into a much more visitor friendly place in the coming years.
