Third of Lithuanians view 2017 as successful year – poll

According to the poll carried out by Baltijos Tyrimai (Baltic Surveys) pollster on Nov. 20 through Dec. 4, the opinion of the country’s residents is virtually unchanged over the past six years – the share of positive opinions remains two times bigger than that of negative opinions, with the majority of the people thinking that the year was neither good, nor bad.

A comparison of the annual answers to the questions since 1995 shows that similar results were reported in the so-called pre-crisis 2005-2007 period. People have listed 2009, the first year of the crisis, as the worst year, while 2006 remains the most successful year for Lithuanians to date.

In this year’s survey, just over a fifth of respondents said the year was successful for Lithuania, while a fourth said it was not a success. The share of people thinking that 2018 would be a better year for Lithuania has fell by 8 percentage points from last year’s figures.
