Urbanavičius takes office as the center’s director on Tuesday, Vytautė Smaižytė, an adviser to the transport and communications minister, told BNS.

Urbanavičius, who did not seek re-appointment after his five-year term as director of the anti-corruption agency expired in March, in late May won the competition for the top job at the Center of Registers.

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis then said that he expected Urbanavičius to solve problems faced by the state enterprise.

The center has been criticized for non-transparent procurement practices, nepotism and squandering of funds.
