The man, who lives in the district of Pasvalys, in northern Lithuania, was the first person in the country to be pulled over by the police for drunk-driving after the amendments criminalizing driving a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of over 1.5 per mill came into force on January 1.

The Panevėžys District Prosecutor’s Office has asked a court to punish the driver under the criminal law.

Under the amendments to the Criminal Code, the offense is punishable by fines amounting to several thousand euros, arrest or imprisonment and the withdrawal of the driving license for up to ten years.
