Lithuania to contribute to NATO’s Ukraine support fund

DELFI / Šarūnas Mažeika

“Lithuania plans to earmark financial support via the above-mentioned NATO fund and we encourage other member-states to support Ukraine in any way they can,” adviser Jovita Neliupšienė told the Žinių Radijas news radio.

In her words, “amid Russia‘s military invasion of Ukraine” and Ukraine’s “struggle for survival”, Lithuania “supports the discussions” of Western military support to Ukraine.

Last week, NATO announced its plans to establish a fund that would finance Ukraine’s army projects in connection to logistics, command and control, cyber defence and support to military personnel, including the injured. The fund may reportedly consist of about 12 million euros.

The United States and the major Western European countries have stated political support to Ukraine but say they will refrain from military action.
