According to the president, the 2015 budget is aimed at reducing the social gap and increasing funding for the country’s national defence.
“Social justice and the reduction of the social gap are one of the state’s key commitments. A safer life for people will be ensured by bigger pensions and rising wages for the lowest-earners. Growth should not be expressed in mere figures, everyone should feel it,” Grybauskaitė was quoted as saying in the statement.
Lithuania’s state revenue will amount to EUR 7.98 billion and expenditure will stand at EUR 8.33 billion.
The National Audit Office of Lithuania has already criticized the new budget, stating that the planned increase in expenses runs counter to the Law on Fiscal Discipline. It also called the estimated growth in income too optimistic.
