“Yesterday was his last day in office. The vice-minister submitted resignation, and I satisfied it,” Minister of the Interior Tomas Žilinskas tol BNS.
The minister did not comment on the reasons behind Jankevičius’ resignation, saying he was expecting the ruling Social Democratic Party to propose candidates for the post.
In Žilinskas’ words, the decision to dismiss the vice-minister was made with consent from the Social Democrats’ leader, Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius.
Butkevicius’ spokeswoman told BNS Lithuania that Jankevičius had “notified the prime minister he wanted to shift his focus to [the parliamentary] elections” scheduled for October.
