The ministry says the proposal is aimed at boosting the diplomatic representation of business interests in target markets.

The ministry underlines the need for improved representation in Poland amid the neighboring country’s growing importance to the functioning and development of the transport system of Lithuania, which is implementing joint European-level projects, such as Rail Baltica, Via Baltica and Via Carpatia.

“Poland is currently a priority direction for passenger and cargo transportation to Western European countries. It is also a potential future partner in developing joint infrastructure networks and coordinating efforts to attract more transit cargoes from Asia (especially China), and North European and Scandinavian countries (…),” it said.

According to the ministry, the post of transport attaché to Russia has been vacant since 2017.

“Since then, all relevant issues in the transport field have been successfully dealt with other diplomats at the Lithuanian embassy to the Russian Federation,” it said.
