In the press release, V. Matijošaitis emphasises that much work has been done, allowing both the people and the businesses of Kaunas to believe in the city and that Kaunas is becoming a modern, European city, notable not only for its order, but also convenience of living.
“Several years ago, I was drawn to the office of mayor by the desire for Kaunas to change. Today the changes in the city have gained excellent momentum. All growing cities have a chance to thrive. Kaunas does not have the right to miss this chance. Together with my team, we feel responsible for it, for this opportunity to become reality,” V. Matijošaitis stated.
For the municipal council elections, V. Matijošaitis is joined by a group of academics, public figures, professionals from business, sports, culture and other areas, including Vilnius Academy of Arts Kaunas Office dean, architect, professor Jonas Audejaitis, doctor of medical sciences, docent and one of the most famous dance trainers in the country Jūratė Elena Norvaišienė and Kaunas State Musical Theatre head Benjaminas Želvys.
V. Matijošaitis has denied talks that emerged suggesting coalitions already being negotiated in the Kaunas city council, stating, “United Kaunas is not a political party and we do not deal in the preliminary arrangements so loved by the parties. We have gathered our team, we are only thinking about Kaunas and nothing else.”
The direct mayoral and municipal council elections will be held on March 3, 2019.
