“A protocol was signed on ceasefire effective from 6 PM on Friday. The protocol contains 14 points that cover all aspects, including control, prisoner exchange and others,” a source told the news agency.
The talks in Minsk that started on Friday are attended by former president of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, Russian ambassador to Kiev Mikhail Zurabov, special envoy of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Heidi Tagliavini as well as leaders of the self-proclaimed separatist Donetsk People’s Republic Alexander Zakharchenko and Andrei Purgin and representative of the separatist Luhansk People’s Republic Igor Plotnitsky.
Most officials participating in the talks hosted in the Belarusian capital refused to talk to reporters. However, Ukraine’s former president Kuchma said: “We all came here for peace. The most important goal is truce.”
“We must talk not about ceasefire but about how to stop military action and stop killing one another,” he told reporters before the talks. “There are no objections from the Ukrainian side for signing [the ceasefire plan]. If other parties are equally benevolent, then [the document] must be signed.”
