Navickas said the meeting of the members of the United Nations (UN) Aarhus Convention would address inadequacies of the implementation of the convention and non-provision of information.

In the minister’s words, the international community should encourage Belarus to meet international obligations.

“It is very important to see international obligations not only signed but also translated into reality. The aspect of implementation is important, as it builds confidence in international organizations and international agreements,” said Navickas.

Alarmed by Belarusian actions and non-receipt of sufficient information about the nuclear project, Lithuania’s turned to the Aarhus Convention’s Compliance Committee in March of 2015, which concluded in June that year that Belarus had violated the provisions of the convention.
