DELFI / Domantas Pipas

During his stay in Vilnius, Wieker will discuss the security situation and military cooperation with President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Defence Vice-Minister Vytautas Umbrasas and Lithuania’s Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas, the Lithuanian Defence Ministry said.

The German-led NATO Enhanced Forward Presence battlegroup, which is aimed at step up deterrence and collective defence in the region, was stationed in Lithuania a year ago and currently includes around 1,400 troops from Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway. Around half of the unit’s troops and the leadership are from Germany.
