“We may consider a single fund,” he told the Žinių Radijas radio station.

According to the prime minister, applications would be filed with the fund, which would assess the results achieved.

“There can be transparent allocation of support. We must decide on how much, from what companies and what criteria need to be set. If we did so, the general public would have no questions any longer,” he said.

The head of government said that it would be reasonable to support the country’s top basketball clubs, such as Žalgiris Kaunas, Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius or Neptūnas Klaipėda, to help them compete in international tournaments and prepare players for the national team.

Last year, the state-owned energy holding company Lietuvos Energija (Lithuanian Energy) granted 300,000 euros in support to Žalgiris Kaunas and the state railway operator Lietuvos Geležinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) provided the same amount of money to Lietuvos Rytas.
