According to the Japanese news agency Kyodo, Abe’s tour will go through Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia.

Abe said he would expand the diplomatic front and reinforce close cooperation on the issue of North Korea and other topics that are important to the international community.

Deividas Matulionis, adviser to Lithuania’s prime minister, confirmed to BNS that Abe would visit Lithuania on Jan. 13-14.

In his words, his agenda in Vilnius would include meetings with Lithuania’s top-ranking officials, followed by a trip to Kaunas to pay tribute to Sugihara. During the 1939-1940 period, Sugihara and Dutch Consul Jan Zvartendijk issued “visas for life”, which allowed saving at least 6,000 Jews from death.
