Ramūnas Karbauskis, head of the Lithuanian Peasant and Green Union’s political group in the Seimas, told the paper that it has been decided not to close the commission down, despite doubts about its further activities voiced by members of the previous parliament.

“I can reassure the Lithuanian World Community that this commission will stay on and that it will not be closed down,” Karbauskis said.

In his words, it has been agreed that all political groups of the new Seimas will propose their candidates to become members of the joint commission.

Vida Bandis, the WLC representative in Lithuania, said that the commission is the only official body in which Lithuanians living abroad can talk about their problems, express their views and try to find common solutions together with members of the parliament.

The commission’s meetings are normally held twice a year and last for three to four days.
