Lithuania army suspends purchase of German weaponry amidst suspicions of defects

The Lithuanian army will be looking into whether the weapons are reliable and suitable for long-term use. It has therefore halted the planned purchase of G-36s for an indefinite period of time, according to the 15min.lt news website.

According to the report, the German army has identified that the rifles’ accuracy falls due to temperature fluctuations. The use of such rifles in hot weather for long intervals leads to a drop in accuracy.

“We have asked Germany for their evaluation. They said they were carrying out an investigation and would give an answer probably in autumn. (…) We have not received any accuracy complaints. Our troops consider the G-36 as very good guns. We had planned to buy quite a number of them this year. But since the Germans have certain doubts, we have halted the purchase until we receive Germany’s response,” Lithuanian National Defence Minister Juozas Oleksas said.
