Lithuania-Hitachi company to bring focus into discussions on Visaginas NPP

“In line with the parliamentary parties’ agreement in which they call for developing this project as fast as possible, we are looking for ways to make these discussions more concrete and we decided to work out such a plan. That plan, the way we see that pre-project company, will be ready by mid-September, because now all the communication is sometimes too virtual,” he said on the Žinių Radijas radio on Thursday.

Neverovič said that all parties would share the cost of setting up the company.

The minister would not disclose how much it might cost for Lithuania, but said that this would not be a large amount of money.

“I’d prefer not to discuss this now, because this is the object of our memorandum. We are to decide by mid-September on the possible structure, possible number of people, specific goals and budget. Thus, we should have that clarity by mid-September,” he said.

The Energy Ministry and Hitachi, the strategic investor in the Visaginas project, signed a memorandum of understanding last week, setting out plans to establish an interim project company.
