“We have not yet received any answer from Russia,” Audris Kutrevičius, spokesman for Lithuania’s Justice Ministry, told BNS.
The request of family of Aristidas Tamošaitis, Lithuanian citizen sentenced in Russia, to move him to a Lithuanian prison was reported last June, while Yevgeny Mataitis, a dual Lithuanian-Russian citizen who has been sentenced in Russia for spying, asked to serve his jail term in Lithuania in late summer.
Tamošaitis has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for spying in Russia, while Mataitis has been sentenced to spend 13 years in prison.
The two Lithuanian citizens were detained and sentenced in Moscow after Lithuania announced detention of Nikolai Filipchenko, intelligence officer of the Russian Federal Security Service’s Kaliningrad division in the country.
Another suspected spy, Russian citizen Sergey Moiseyenko, is currently on trial in Lithuania.
Lithuanian authorities have not given any official comment on the possibility of exchanging spies.
