Lithuania switching to daylight saving time Sunday

The Lithuanian government also announced that it is not considering proposals to abandon daylight saving time, or summer time, government chancellor has said.

“There is a schedule for switching to the summer time, which covers the period until the end of 2016. There was a proposal to ask the European Commission whether or not that directive might be amended, revoked, etc. Following consultations with the Commission, that initiative was dismissed by both the Commission and Member States,” Alminas Mačiulis told BNS.

Many countries of the European Union (EU) started using daylight saving time in mid-80ies.

Clocks are reset twice every year to make more rational use of the light hours of the day.
