Lithuania to raise minimum monthly pay EUR 10 in October

DELFI / Šarūnas Mažeika

“There were some ideas that it would not make sense to make the increase as of 1 January, since we may face various other problems [in connection to the adoption of the euro]. Therefore, the agreement today and the compromise solution was to raise the minimum monthly wages by 35 litas as of 1 October,” said Butkevičius.

In his words, raising minimum pay to 1,035 litas will require additional 5 million litas this year.

The prime minister stated that municipalities and institutions will have to generate the money in their budgets, as the national budget will not be revised.
