71 percent of Lithuanian Russians, 51 percent of Lithuanian Poles and 31 percent of Lithuanians are against TV restrictions.
Respondents believe that biased (44.3 percent), tendentious (43.3 percent), inciting discord (41.1 percent) and inciting hatred (39.7 percent) information is spread by Russian-language TV channels PBK, NTV Mir and RTR Planeta.
Around a fourth disagreed and around a third did not have an opinion.
Nerijus Maliukevičius, an expert of the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University, who presented the results, told BNS the respondents were asked one question: “Vilnius Regional Court has ruled that Russian-language channels PBK, RTR Planeta and NTV spread biased, tendentious and possibly discord and hatred inciting information. Which of these aspects do you agree or disagree with?”
“It probably shows that people in Lithuania want to be allowed to choose what to watch and to filter propaganda information themselves,” Mažvydas Jastramskis, another representative of the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University, was quoted as saying in a statement.
The May survey of 1,008 people across Lithuania was carried out by public opinion and market research company Spinter Tyrimai.
