Lithuanians lead for online news reading in Europe

Lithuanians are the most active online news readers in Europe with 94% reading news online, with internet penetration increasing all the time, Lithuania has a great potential for electronic services development.

Over the past 15 years the number of households who have internet access in Lithuania has increased by a factor of 20. Now 70.6% of households in cities and 62.7% in the countryside have internet access.

Lithuania ranks 7th in the EU for availability of internet access and fourth for the next generation broadband coverage.

Lithuanian Communications Minister Rimantas Sinkevičius said that Lithuanians are the most active online news readers in Europe and with 71% only second to Bulgarians regarding video call use.

Lithuanians are also increasingly using the electronic services of public authorities with 44% accessing public services electronically last year.
