Conducted by public opinion and market research company Vilmorus, the survey revealed that 68 percent of people in Lithuania support the Baltic country’s EU membership, compared to 59 percent a year ago. The number of those sceptical about Lithuania’s EU membership has dropped from 18 to 14 percent.
There has also been a huge rise in the number of people who believe EU membership is good not only for economic but also security reasons. The number of those who think EU membership ensures security for Lithuania has almost quadrupled from 3 to 11 percent.
Just like last year, Lithuanians cited financial and economic support (38 percent) as the biggest benefit of EU membership, followed by the freedom of movement (25 percent) and the possibility to work abroad (11 percent).
The survey of 1,005 adult Lithuanian residents was carried out by Vilmorus on 6-15 June.
