This year, nearly 60% of Lithuanians are planning to spend their holidays in Lithuanian resorts and towns, while a fifth will travel to southern Europe, Future of Holidays consumer habits survey shows.
The study showed that as many as 78% of respondents identified security situation in the region as the main criterion for selecting a holiday destination.
“The study shows that, when it comes to holiday destinations abroad, Lithuanians are interested in Southern Europe – Spain and its islands, Italy, the Greek islands. More than one third of the survey respondents choose these countries. But people also tend to spend holidays in their homeland, Lithuanian resorts remain in demand, irrespective of vacationers’ income group,” said the head of OMD Darius Gricius.
Lithuanians spend relatively little time on vacation, the survey also suggests. Almost half of the surveyed people spend 1-3 days on the seaside and over 71% spend no more than three days in other parts of the country. Almost 40% choose to spend a week on holidays abroad.
Nearly 20% of surveyed Lithuanians said that security issues have limited their trips to foreign countries, and 23% avoid those regions where the threat of attack is the highest.
