LNG vessel underwent testing on its way to Lithuania

“The vessel’s trip is taking long. We have been briefed about that – that it’s a way to test the ship, the mooring and loading processes, so as to make us sure that everything is working and everything is fine,” Giedrė Kaminskaitė-Salters, Dalia Grybauskaitė’s advisor on economic and social matters, said in an interview to the Žinių Radijas on Tuesday.

On 27 October, Dalia Grybauskaitė will go to Klaipėda to welcome the ship, the aide says.

“It would ensure Lithuania’s energy independence from a single supplier. Moreover, with certain adjustments to the gas infrastructure made, it could also be possible to guarantee a certain degree of security to other Baltic countries or even Finland,” Kaminskaitė-Salters added.

The Independence is currently moored in Denmark. The LNG facility is to be launched officially on 3 December.
