“There are about six or seven tractors that will pour out powdered milk outside the council building, which currently hosts the meeting. We demand that the powdered milk bought in intervention purchases did not enter the market, as this would cut prices,” Jonas Vilionis, the head of the Lithuanian Milk Producers Association, told BNS in a telephone interview from the Belgian capital.

In his words, besides Lithuanians the protest includes farmers from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland.

Eimantas Bičius of the association told BNS that the powdered milk was discarded from tractors brought by Belgian farmers at about 12:30 p.m. Lithuanian time.

Lithuania’s Agriculture Minister Bronius Markauskas told BNS last week that the EC was selling the powdered milk in small quantities and with great caution, therefore, the effect on dairy prices was insignificant.
