Minister says Lithuania should introduce “zero per mille” alcohol limit for all drivers

“I believe the discussions are going in the right direction and we will have to introduce a zero per mille limit for all road users because we see that sometimes people find it hard to set the limit themselves,” the minister told the radio Žinių Radijas.

The provisions of the Code of the Administrative Offences that entered into effect at the beginning of 2015 stipulate that drivers of taxis, motorcycles, quad bikes and commercial vehicles, as well as drivers who have less than two years of experience, can drive only when completely sober. Other drivers cannot exceed 0.4 per mille alcohol limit.

From 1 April 2016, the average level of drunkenness (over 1.5 per mille) will be subject not to administrative, but criminal liability.
