VILNIUS, Dec 18, BNS – Fighter-jets serving in the NATO air-policing mission in Lithuania were last week scrambled once over Russian warplanes flying in the international airspace.
On Dec. 13, the jets intercepted three Russian fighter-jets Su-27 flying in the international airspace from mainland Russia to its Kaliningrad region, the Lithuanian Defence Ministry said on Monday.
The aircrafts were flying without pre-filed flight plans, with their on-board transponders off and did not maintain contact with the regional flight control centre.
The Baltic air-policing mission is conducted from Lithuania and Estonia.
