Norway’s crown prince to visit Lithuania

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė and the future king of Norway will discuss bilateral relations, cooperation within NATO, regional security issues and strengthening of bilateral ties in the areas of economy, energy and culture.

Two memoranda on the European Economic Area financial mechanism for 2014-2021 will be signed during the visit. Although Norway is not a member of the European Union, it belongs to the European Economic Area and provides financial support to Lithuania to reduce social differences.

Norway will provide over 115 million euros in financial support to Lithuania over the new financial aid period to promote business development, innovations and research and strengthen the areas of healthcare, social dialogue, environment and energy efficiency.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit and President Grybauskaitė will open a bilateral business forum during the official visit. The Norwegian royal couple will be accompanied by a business delegation from 20 companies. The forum will focus on innovations and information, cyber security and defense technologies.

Norway is among ten major foreign investors in Lithuania, with 250 Norwegian companies operating in the Baltic country. Meanwhile, Lithuania is Norway’s largest exports market in the Baltic states.

It will be the Norwegian royal couple’s first visit to Lithuania.
