Carried out in July, the survey showed that 22.3 percent would now vote for the Social Democrats in general elections, and 10.5 percent would support the Liberal Movement. In June, the latter number was 14 percent.
The opposition Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats and the Labour Party, also part of the ruling coalition in Lithuania, would get 9.5 percent each, and the third coalition partner Order and Justice party would receive 7.8 percent of votes.
“The Social Democrats’ rating remains stable since last July, and the Liberals’ popularity peaked in April and has dropped slightly since then,” Vladas Gaidys, head of the Vilmorus pollster which carried out the poll, told BNS on Saturday.
Experts interviewed by the Lietuvos Rytas daily, which published the results, said the drop in the Liberal’s popularity might have to do with the closure of Air Lituanica carrier, the end of the “honeymoon” after the recent municipal elections and Vilnius councillor Mark Adam Harold’s scandalous statements on Lithuania that led to his removal from the Liberal Movements’ political group at Vilnius Municipality.
The survey also showed that President Dalia Grybauskaitė and Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius remain the most popular politicians in Lithuania, favourably evaluated by 62.6 and 62.4 percent respectively.
Valdemar Tomaševski, leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania, is least favoured politician in Lithuania as10.4 percent of people surveyed had a positive opinion about him and 62.1 percent had a negative one.
1,030 Lithuanian residents were surveyed on July 2-12.
