Lithuania’s Defence Ministry said on July 25 that the signing had to be moved to later date, as the Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation’s, which Lithuania is buying the vehicles through, has failed to complete the program of Lithuania’s integration in the Boxer program.
“The contract will be signed after Lithuania is integrated in the Boxer program in the OCCAR organization, which is currently harmonizing aspects of Lithuania’s integration in the Boxer program with six countries,” the Defence Ministry said in a press release.
“We expected the integration to be done by July, however, the signing date has to be moved to August due to delays in the integration procedures,” reads the communique.
All in all, Lithuania plans to buy 88 Boxers to equip two of its army’s Land Force battalions. They will include 84 IFVs, equipped with 300 MK2 turrets, and four armoured command vehicles.
Lithuania expects the first Boxers to arrive in 2017 in what will be the most expensive acquisition in the history of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The value of the deal is withheld.
The country’s Land Forces currently use M113 armoured transporters.
