Andrius Palionis, head of the Social Democratic group in the Seimas, confirmed this after meeting with the leaders of the ruling Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union’s (LFGU) on Tuesday.

“In principle, we should propose a candidate to be the next economy minister, but we proposed that out partners consider swapping the ministries and giving us the Social Security and Labor Ministry,” he said.

When asked whether they had a specific candidate for the social security and labor ministry’s job, Palionis said, “We have more than one”.

The Lithuanian Social Democratic Party’s (LSDP) council decided a week ago to withdraw from the coalition with the LFGU.

However, eleven Social Democratic lawmakers several days later signed an agreement with the LFGU group to form a coalition in the parliament. Another six Social Democratic MPs did not sign the deal, but they are not leaving the LSDP group.
