In 2015, outbreaks of measles were reported in many countries across Europe and the rest of the world.
In Lithuania, the majority of the cases were diagnosed in the Kaunas county, with cases also reported in the counties of Vilnius, Klaipėda, Panevėžys, Šiauliai and Utena.
The majority of the infected individuals are adults who had not been vaccinated against the disease or had only received one dose of the vaccination. The children had not been vaccinated, a few were vaccinated too early, while the majority got the infection from ill adults.
According to the press release, vaccination is the only way of preventing measles.
