Vilnius has received two bicycle stands designed to resemble a car from the Netherlands during the Bicycle Day.
The stands were uncovered by the Mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimašius and the Kingdom of the Netherlands Ambassador Bert van der Lingen who had ridden bikes from the municipality to Cathedral Square in Vilnius.
“Vilnius is an open and friendly city for cyclists. The work on the most problematic paths has already begun so that there can be more cyclists, at least 200 bicycle paths will be fixed through this spring and summer and next year we are planning a real breakthrough,” said the Mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimašius
Bicycle Day was celebrated not only in Vilnius, but in many other EU capitals as well.
“Riding a bike is useful, fun, healthy, environmentally friendly and suitable for everyone. The Embassy of the Netherlands wants to spread this message as widely as possible in all the capitals of Europe, which is why we organise this bike festival. Cities should consider options on how bicycles can contribute to sustainable urban mobility,” said the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Lithuania Bert van der Lingen.
