Litgrid and NATO Energy Security Centre to enhance cooperation

“Reliable energy supply is one of the key factors contributing to energy security. Disruption in electricity supply would have an impact on the daily activities of people. By cooperating with NATO Energy Security Centre for Excellence we will be able to deepen our knowledge and exchange experience to protect the power system from any disturbances,” said Litgrid’s CEO Daivis Virbickas.

Cooperation with the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid will be fruitful because we are going to enhance the competence of both organisations, which will result in a higher added value in terms of ensuring the security of our societies. By cooperating with specialists in our field we will be able to expand our knowledge, share in information and invite our partners to participate in international exercises and training courses hosted by us. The cooperation between our Centre, an international military organisation, and Litgrid, a joint-stock energy company, provides a great opportunity to advance at the expert level in order to enhance the protection of vital energy infrastructure,” pointed out Colonel Gintaras Bagdonas, Director of NATO Energy Security Centre for Excellence.

Litgrid and NATO Energy Security Centre for Excellence will share the results of their studies and research, and implement joint energy security projects and initiatives.

Vilnius-based NATO Energy Security Centre for Excellence is responsible for the energy security of the whole alliance. One of the main tasks of the Centre is the protection of vital energy infrastructure. The Centre ensures the protection of such objects and thereby maintains interrupted access to energy resources.

Litgrid manages electricity flows throughout entire Lithuania. Litgrid’s specialists ensure reliable power supply across the whole country. Litgrid’s Power System Control Centre as well as power interconnections LitPol Link and NordBalt have been recognised as objects having strategic importance for state security.
