Amber Grid signs gas pipeline construction contract

Contract on the purchase of the construction works of gas transmission pipeline Klaipėda-Kuršėnai was concluded with Alvora, operating under a joint venture agreement together with Kauno dujotiekio statyba and Siaulių dujotiekio statyba. The value of the contract totals LTL 130 million (EUR 37.7 million) excluding VAT.

Contract on the purchase of steel pipes necessary for the construction of the pipeline was concluded with Noksel Celik Boru Sanayi A.S., operating under a joint venture agreement with Borusan Mannesmann Boru Sanayi Ve Tic A.S. and Erciyas Celik Boru Sanayi A.S. The value of the contract – LTL 57 million (EUR 16.52 million) excluding VAT.

The aim of the economic project, which is accorded the status of national importance, is to diversify sources of the supply of gas in the Baltic region, create sufficient capacities for transporting natural gas from the liquefied natural gas terminal in Klaipėda to consumers across Lithuania and other Baltic countries, ensure safety and reliability of operations of natural gas system.

A 110km-long, 800mm-wide pipeline going from Klaipėda natural gas terminal interconnection point nearby Klaipėda to Kuršėnai will be built for the implementation of the project. The commencement of the pipeline is scheduled for the end of 2015.
