According to a statement released late on Saturday, up to around 350 jobs might go or may be moved abroad. Barclays currently employs around 1,200 people in Vilnius.

The Barclays center’s chief executive Mariano Andrade Gonzalez said the move was related to the bank’s long-term global strategy and process optimization.

„We always consider various opportunities to optimize our activities around the world, including the United States, India, Asia and the Pacific Ocean region as well as the United Kingdom and Europe, including Lithuania. We would like to stress that these plans are being considered globally and have nothing to do with the investment climate in Lithuania”, he said in the statement.

„No decisions as yet have been made regarding Barcleys’ further strategy in Lithuania, including the Rise Vilnius startup working space”, Andrade Gonzalez said.

The Barclays Technology Centre Lithuania was opened in Vilnius in May, 2010, and a human resources management center was opened in 2014.
