Berankis drops in international tennis rankings

The drastic fall came after an unsuccessful performance in the Australian Open, where the Lithuanian lost to Ukrainian player Alexandr Dolgopolov in four sets battle with scores of 1-6, 6-3, 4-6, 2-6. Berankis is planning to take part in the upcoming Olympic Games. In order to do so, he will have to climb to the top 75 in the world rankings in order to get a ticket to the Olympics.

The second-best Lithuanian, Laurynas Grigelis, improved his positions by four places this week and will be ranked at 298th place. One of the 24-year-old Lithuanian’s main goals is to return to the top 200 in the world rankings.

The 21-year-old Lukas Mugevičius lost 13 positions this week, falling to 747th place. His compatriot, the 23-year-old Dovydas Šakinis, moved up one to take 1577th place.

The 18-year-old Tadas Babelis dropped 5 positions, ranking at 1746th place, while the 21-year-old Julius Tverijonas improved his ranking by three places and took 2078th place in the ATP’s world rankings on Monday.
