In their comments sent to BNS by their spokespersons, the president, the speaker of the Seimas and the prime minister say that the time has come to take decisions, but they do not comment on specific provisions.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė:

“The issue of cohabitation is very important for a very wide range of people. Thus, it is high time that we put in place legal regulation of relations between people. The legislative initiatives registered in the Seimas after lengthy discussions are the first step towards establishing legal regulation of property and other issues of cohabitation for all people who live together.”

Viktoras Pranckietis, the speaker of the Seimas:

“We have to admit that the present-day situation requires decisions in order to put in place legal conditions for citizens to deal with various life situations. In my opinion, the legal framework must expand possibilities and ensure cohabitation conditions for present and future generations.”

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis:

“We must ensure the protection and legal regulation of property and other interests of all people in Lithuania who live together and share a common household. It is high time that we solve this issue.”
