Christmas trees lit in Lithuanian cities, resorts

Two Christmas trees were lit in the port city of Klaipėda: a 12-meter-high spruce in the Old Town’s Teatro (Theater) Square and a 20-meter-high “golden tree” made up of almost 3,500 “golden” artificial spruce branches in Atgimino Square.

Kaunas’ main Christmas tree in the city’s Town Hall Square is decorated with programmable bubbles that are remotely controlled and can change colours. What makes the tree special is that spent coffee grounds are used to produce energy for its lighting.

Saturday’s Christmas tree lighting ceremonies in Klaipeda and Kaunas were followed by firework shows and concerts.
