It will count down in seconds, minutes, hours and days to 1 January 2015, when Lithuania is to officially switch to the euro. The timer will be launched immediately after the decision of the General Affairs Council which is expected at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Moreover, the countdown timer will remind people of the irrevocably fixed conversion rate of the litas and the euro, which will be announced by the EU Council on Wednesday as well. This rate will be used to calculate wages, pensions, social benefits, tariffs, prices, etc.

Lithuania will become the 19th EU member state to adopt the euro.
