The increase is exceptional after the consistent decline in person targeted by criminal intelligence in the 2012–2015 period.
“In 2016, the increase in the indicator was due to more efficient criminal intelligence,” Elena Martinonienė, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office, told BNS.
In her words, 562 pre-trial investigations were opened in 2016 following criminal intelligence actions. In 2015, the number was 86 investigations less.
Under the law, criminal intelligence actions include surveillance, secret operations, simulation of criminal activity and other actions.
