Czech Republic to station company of troops in Baltic States

The stationing of a rotating company of Czech troops in the Baltic States was confirmed in Vilnius today by Czech Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky and Lithuanian Defence Minister Juozas Olekas.

“Czech support for Lithuania is very important, it shows Czech solidarity and readiness to stand together in addressing threats to our security in the region,” said Olekas.

The Czech Republic is also participating in NATO air policing mission in the Baltic countries, and the Lithuanian and the Czech Air Force are working in close cooperation.

Discussing preparations for July forthcoming NATO summit in Warsaw, Olekas stressed the need for strengthening NATO’s presence in the region, and the importance of having a rotating multinational battalion size unit in each Baltic country, a NATO rapid response force and reinforcements in case of a crisis.
