Gintaras Neniskis, CEO of Klaipėdos Viešasis Transportas (Klaipėda Public Transport), said the city buses would be equipped with a modern system that will be operated online, enabling passengers to pay by mobile phone, bank cards, special codes and offer a bigger variety of tickets.
“We will have a normal Wester-style modern system of public transportation: a possibility to pay by more than an electronic ticket but an additional possibility to pay with contactless bank card, with a mobile telephone and a QR code, which can be on a phone or in a printed version,” said Neniskis.
The new system will be integrated with city and suburban public transport.
The Estonian company will launch the new technology on 231 Klaipėda buses.
Operating since 2009, Ridango has already implemented such projects in Estonia, Sweden and Greenland.
